Set in the tranquil mountains of Liguria, harpists Johanna Schellenberger and Emily Hoile invite players aged 16 and over to take part in an intensive week-long harp masterclass.

About the Masterclass

This immersive week is designed for harpists who want to refine their technique, develop their musical voice, and gain fresh insight into performance and repertoire. Through focused individual work and shared musical experiences, Johanna and Emily will support participants in developing confidence, versatility, and artistic clarity. Surrounded by the calm and beauty of rural Liguria, the course offers space to practise deeply, listen closely, and learn alongside like-minded musicians.

Daily lessons

A combination of individual lessons and group sessions tailored to each participant. Work will focus on technique, sound production, musical interpretation, and repertoire, with guidance relevant to auditions, competitions, and conservatoire or university entrance requirements.

Concerts

Participants will have opportunities to perform during the week, gaining valuable stage experience in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Chamber music

Ensemble playing and collaborative projects form an important part of the course, encouraging listening, flexibility, and musical dialogue between players.

Warm up sessions and technique classes

Drawing on their extensive international careers, Johanna and Emily will lead warm up sessions, and technique classes, helping participants to overcome their technical boundaries.

Audition Training

Audition training classes allow participants to put themselves into a stressful audition situation, followed by constructive feedback.

Nestled in the Ligurian hills, the course takes place in a peaceful and inspiring location. Between sessions, participants can enjoy the region’s natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere, and renowned Italian hospitality, creating a balance of focused study and restorative downtime.

Participants will be encouraged to stay active during the week with daily possibilities to get moving during the week.

Enjoy the beautiful Italian weather and relax by the pool in between classes or in the evenings.

Festival della Musica Liguria cover breakfast and lunch with fresh, high quality food, and try to match your personal dietary requirements. Participants have access to a fully equipped kitchen, or local restaurants for their evening meals.

Travel

Multiple shuttles will be organised on the day of arrival, from the train station in Imperia to the location.
